Many have seen (or heard) about Walmart’s “new” ice cream flavor that’s supposed to be in support of Juneteenth. What a lot of us are just now finding out is that this red velvet compilation was ALREADY selling on their shelves! Chef Liz Rogers, owner of Creamalicious Artisan Ice Cream, brought us Right as Rain Red Velvet Cheesecake, a smooth blend of Creamalicious red velvet ice cream and silky, cheesecake chunks, and let’s just say that nothing could EVER compare to what Chef Liz has created. Black Twitter was in an uproar as many posted their disdain for the grocery chain commercializing such an important day for African-American culture in the US, especially Texas. Juneteenth, or June 19th, is recognized as a federal holiday as it commemorates the official ending of slavery for Black Americans in 1865. The celebration, also known as “Emancipation Day,” started in Galveston, Texas and has spread amongst many in the Black community throughout the US.
